Bio

With a career that encompasses both opera and oratorio, bass-baritone Sean Watson has sung throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East. Last summer he sang the role of Osmin in Mozart`s The Abduction From The Seraglio in Fidenza, Italy.

This was followed by the role of Lord Rochefort in Donizetti's Anna Bolena for Opera in Concert in Toronto, where Mr Watson has also appeared in such works as Donizetti`s Maria Stuarda, and Handel`s Rinaldo, which was later recorded for the Naxos label. Mr Watson has also performed with Opera Ontario as Dr Bartolo in The Barber of Seville, and Masetto in Don Giovanni, as well as with Toronto Operetta Theatre as Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow, and Prince Ypsheim in Wiener Blut.

In addition, Mr Watson has appeared with the Ottawa Choral Society, Kingston Symphony, Elora Festival Singers, Early Music Vancouver, Windsor Symphony, and the Carmel Bach Festival in California. Mr Watson is also a former Les Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyrique Grand Prize Winner, which led to appearances at L'Opera d'Avignon in France and Teatro di Livorno in Italy.

Recent performances included the title role in The Mikado with Toronto Operetta Theatre, as well as Baron Duphol in La Traviata with Opera Lyra at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Mr Watson is also thrilled about the brand new release of his second recording for the Naxos label - this time, Handel's Israel in Egypt, performed with Kevin Mallon and the Aradia Ensemble, along with a very fine group of other soloists and choristers.

Upcoming engagements include Canadian composer John Estacio's work entitled The Houses Stand Not Far Apart, to be performed along with Chorus Niagara and the Orpheus Choir, as well as Haydn's Creation with the Calgary Festival Chorus.
